Tips for de-cluttering your home
The time for making new year’s resolutions has passed, but it’s never too late to make a change! If you’re trying to, or are thinking about selling your home, a great way to make your property seem more spacious is by having a de-clutter. We’ve pulled together some of our favourite tips to help you get your house decluttered. After all, a tidy home is a tidy mind!
Set a target
If you have a visual target, such as a charity bag that you need to fill, it may be easier to let some items go. You’ll also feel a sense of achievement when you see a full bag of items to go to charity!
Take your time
Rome wasn’t built in a day, so for a good de-clutter you may have to take your time. Challenge yourself to tackle a room every day, or every week. If you don’t pressure yourself, it’ll be an easier task. Once it’s finished, you’re bound to feel proud.
Ask yourself, did I use this in the last year?
A great way to let go of items you can’t quite bring yourself to throw away is to ask yourself, “have I used this/worn this in the last year?” If the answer is no, ask yourself why. It’s probably because you don’t need it. Someone else could be using it, so let go and donate it to charity. Besides, wouldn’t you rather have the extra space?
Take a photo
Who doesn’t love a ‘before and after photo’? Take a before photo of the room you’re setting out to declutter, so when you’re feeling demotivated, you can look back on it and remember why you’re taking on the task! Also, when you take the after photo, the sense of achievement will be amazing.
